WHAT IS ADVOCACY DAY?

"I have been repeatedly told that I will feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day...and boy were they right... I felt heard...I felt like I mattered."

Our Advocacy Day this year will be in partnership, as always, with the Medical Staff Society of the State of New York, New York Institute of Technology Medical School and the Zucker/Hofstra Medical School. Advocacy Day is an event every year where the the physician community comes together to talk to local and state legislators about important topics, like the Medical Surprise Billing Act and the supporting fair payment for telehealth care.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You will spend your day with like minded individuals who care about the same things you care about.
The NCMS will schedule the virtual appointments with legislators and provide you with a schedule a week before Advocacy Day.
All first-time Advocacy Day participants will be offered training before the scheduled appointments. You will also receive a pdf of materials as well as some tips and talking points for the appointments.
There will be an appointed Captain and Co-Captain for every call that will start the conversation and will moderate.

Schedule at a Glance

Learn more about NCMS's Virtual Advocacy Day schedule attached. We ask for your patience and understanding since the legislator offices have very busy schedules we need to be flexible with their availability and working with their schedule.

HOW DOES A VIRTUAL ADVOCACY DAY WORK?

A virtual NCMS Advocacy Day is a day full of interactive online meetings that bring together NCMS members and champions.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

We encourage our participants to wear their white coats, if they could. If not, business attire is highly recommended. We do ask that you please avoid jeans, shorts, t-shirts and other casual attire.

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHO MY REPRESENTATIVES ARE?

I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH PUBLIC SPEAKING, WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF ME ON THAT DAY?

That is quite alright. The meetings happen in a group setting and we have someone who moderates and drives the conversation. If you feel comfortable you are welcome to participate. If you do not feel comfortable speaking your presence still makes a difference.

I WOULD LOVE TO COME BUT CAN’T COMMIT TO THE WHOLE DAY…SHOULD I STILL REGISTER?

Yes please register and email the office your availability. We will make sure to work with your availability and will assign you to the appropriate meetings.

IS THIS A PARTISAN EVENT, MEANING, WILL I HAVE TO TELL PEOPLE IF I AM A DEMOCRAT OR A REPUBLICAN?

No, this is not a partisan event. These meetings will educate and raise awareness to the elected officials in your state. Even if you did not personally vote for them, they still must hear from you!
