NCMS BENEFITS

Supporting our members through every step of their journey

PHYSICIAN ADVOCACY

Every year, MSSNY’s Division of Government Affairs analyzes thousands of bills introduced in the New York State Legislature that impact your ability to provide care to your patients.

MSSNY issues memoranda of support or opposition to the Legislature on hundreds of these bills, and our lobbyists work with members of the Assembly, Senate, and Governor’s office to advocate for passage of legislation which MSSNY supports.

Flexing Your Political Muscle

To recognize that an issue is of serious concern, legislators must hear from our New York State physicians directly. MSSNY facilitates delivery of your message to legislators.

MSSNY Grassroots Action Center

Utilize MSSNY’s Grassroots Action Center—a resource to help you contact your representatives with prepared messages or to submit your own, edited versions.

Join MSSNYPAC

Political action committees are voluntary associations of individuals who share political objectives and pool resources. MSSNYPAC helps elect legislators who share the views of New York State physicians on how to improve our health care system and helps ensure that your voice will be heard.

Physician Lobby Day

We encourage you to participate in Physician Lobby Day and legislator contact programs. International medical graduates, minority physicians, women, and salaried and group practice physicians, have all been recognized as special constituencies whose increased participation is encouraged.

PHYSICIAN SUPPORT PROGRAMS

Committee for Physician Health (CPH) provides confidential assistance to physicians, medical students, and physician assistants suffering from substance use or other mental health disorders; monitors the treatment and clinical practice of program participants; and provides advocacy, support, and outreach activities, including prevention and education. All calls to CPH are confidential.

MSSNY’s Peer to Peer (P2P) Program offers physicians, residents, and medical students the opportunity to talk confidentially about life's stressors with trained peer supporters who can share experiences, listen without judgment, validate feelings, and provide empathy and perspective. Supporters can also connect you to organizations and individuals for more focused assistance on positive coping skills.

CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME) OPPORTUNITIES

NCMS and NAM MEMBERS

Starting in 2022, the Nassau Academy of Medicine is furthering our partnership with Northwell Health to offer free CME opportunities to our members. All CME opportunities will be virtual for the time being to make them easily accessible for our members from all over the county. In the future, it is our hope to have our members learn and grow alongside one another in person. Whether near or far, we will provide our members with the academic tools to better patient care and enhance medical treatment in Nassau County.

CME SITE
Visit MSSNY’s CME website where physicians and their staff are invited to take advantage of MSSNY’s online library of informative CME course offerings. Courses—on topics such as Immunizations: Recommendations During a Disaster, Health Matters for Women, and Mental Health and Covid-19 for Professionals—are moderated by physician experts in their specialties and require about an hour to
complete. It’s a convenient way to stay up to date on public health issues while earning your CME credits.
