OUR MISSION

As the Nassau Academy of Medicine evolves we aim to preserve the Academy’s original purpose. We will continue to “diffuse among people knowledge of the achievements of scientific medicine” through the “educational opportunities and training of a postgraduate nature for members of the medical profession in Nassau County.” Moving forward, we aspire to not only provide educational opportunities but also ensure access to virtual and/or in-person events that offer free CME credits to all members. In essence, we will administer the means to better serve patients and deliver a higher quality of care through advancing the medical education of all levels of physicians in Nassau County. By establishing and maintaining an online database of medical journals and publications of our members, we look to showcase their accomplishments and light the path of greatness for all future physicians. Furthermore, we strive to serve as a resource and offer unconditional support to our members through every step of their journey in the medical field.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT, ANTHONY J. BATTISTA, MD, FAAP

Dear Members of the Nassau Academy of Medicine,

It is with anticipation and hope for the future of the Nassau Academy of Medicine that I now accept the position of President of the Nassau Academy of Medicine.  I am grateful for President Paul A. Pipia’s hard work and dedication to the Academy’s mission and for all that he has done over the last two years. I await the contributions he will make to the field of medicine as he assumes the role of Vice President of the Medical Society of the State of New York.  May what he accomplished at the Nassau Academy of Medicine be only the beginning of his life-long journey and commitment to the prosperity of the medical field as a whole.

Our new office at 666 Old Country Road in Garden City will encourage us to engage in fresh activities both for our members and for the residents of Nassau County.  We have already created a scholarship fund for senior-year medical school students and, hopefully, will lower the membership dues to entice more physicians to join.  We will continue to offer educational programs for our members and have embarked on furthering our partnership with Northwell to offer free CME opportunities as an exclusive membership benefit.  The updated Academy website will present and reflect the initiatives of our collective efforts as we innovate our approach to engage our members.

I would like to express my gratitude to our members and our staff in advance.  Our members have already augmented the science and the art of medicine and reinforced the relationships that we have with the people of Nassau County.  Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen the resolve and perseverance of Nassau physicians as they strive to maintain academic excellence and provide extraordinary medical care during these difficult times.  As we continue to navigate the ever-changing landscape of medicine, may we never forget the strength that we gain when we unite as a community of Nassau County physicians.  We will take the lessons we have learned through the pandemic and, in conjunction with our ever-flourishing academic knowledge, apply them to our practice and improve healthcare and medical treatment in Nassau County.

Thank you for your noble efforts and for affording me the opportunity to serve the medical community over the coming year.

Warm regards,

Anthony J.  Battista, MD, FAAP
